Why Americans Seem to Vote Against Their Own Self Interest?
The theme of the Republican Party in the upcoming Presidential election is based on no new taxes on job creators. The Republicans say that they represent the will of the American people. They say the people want them to stop, and then cut back on government social spending. They want to stop, reverse, reform and end, Financial and Healthcare reforms passed by President Obama and the Democratic Congress, before the 2010 mid-term elections. The theme and agenda of the Republican Party is pro- business and it is said to represent the will of the people. The vote in the recent recall election in Wisconsin is held up as proof that the American people support the Republican Agenda. Government jobs, along with any and all labor unions must be eliminated to cut down the national debt. That is the will of the American People so say The Republicans.
The theme of the Democratic Party is the exact opposite of the Republican Party's theme. They want to tax the rich and stop corporate socialism and welfare, to cut down on the national debt. The Democrats say they represent the will of the working, low, and underclass that voted for the President in 2008. They claim a desire to help the everyday people and stop and control out of control healthcare cost. They say they need to reform the financial institutions to avoid a repeat of a financial disaster like the one that greeted President Obama in 2008. The theme and agenda of the Democratic Party is pro-American people. The Democratic President want to employ Americans to rebuild America and the Republicans say the government should no longer supply jobs for Americans. The Republicans believe jobs should come from the private sector to save on government spending and that’s the will of the people.
Now let us consider the clear and present danger in the choice of Democrat or Republican. The middle and working class will be paying higher taxes and higher cost for less service and products in a privatized profit driven Republican public service economy. They would never vote Republican, you would think, and you would be dead wrong. Why would middle and working class people vote for Republicans who seek to destroy unions, fire government employed police, teachers, and firemen to cut government spending in the name of austerity? You would think the people wouldn’t vote for a party that caters to the rich and powerful and not everyday people. How can a person seem to be voting against their own self interest? Corporations, Big Banks, Health Insurers and Wall Street make billions and trillions yearly. The simple fact is millions of wealthy and everyday Americans are invested in the fraud and corruption on Wall Street that has crippled the American economy. The underclass is the only class not getting a dividend check, neither a pay check, just a government check.
When we the people get use to getting a check no matter where it come from the government or whoever, or if the dividends are being paid based on the misery of others, we feel empowered. It may appear that people vote against their own interest, in most cases they do, but in their reality they are protecting their retirements. Tea- Crasher, the Republicans support Wall Street and not people, but Wall Street is just a street. Financial Institutions and Corporations exchange stocks and money on Wall Street, money changers work on Wall Street. The Corporations were declared people by the Supreme Court recently and in a voting sense I see the effect of that decision. People are the 99% of Wall Street that has never been to Wall Street, but will more than likely vote for and support a Pro-Wall Street Presidential Candidate. Some people will vote in the best interest of their one share of Coke, Apple, Facebook, and their two shares of Wal-Mart that gives them at lease a dividend check. Corporations are an undercover and underestimated voting bloc of voters that will vote and hope for unregulated profits and not to lose everything.
