Political View from the Underclass

“The Black Death and Gun Rights” Viewed by the Underclass

The U. S. Constitution gives every American citizen the right to have arms, at lease the right to possess arms but not to carry arms. The right to carry arms is a State Right. City and town ordinances in states with rights to carry laws are discretionary and arbitrary nationwide. There is no uniformity in gun laws and people’s rights concerning the freedoms and rights to bare arms. The Constitutional Right is a Federal law and Right that didn’t come with any guidelines. It was the right and duty of every citizen to be armed and prepare to form militias to defend the new nation from enemies at home and abroad. Today, America’s enemies know that American citizens possess more fire arms then many country's\ armies. They know that a land invasion would be met with true modern day militia force. Armed Forces and armed citizens make America capable of self defense like no other nation, other than China.

The Federal government or the President cannot and will not try to take the guns from the people. That would be ridiculous and dangerous. Nobody has to worry about government agents going house to house collecting weapons in an attempt to disarm all American citizens and because of world history, we the people would never vote to be disarmed. Regulation and control of gun rights are not controlled by the Federal Government, state and local governments have almost complete control of the nation’s gun laws.

Now, what does The Black Death have to do with guns and gun control in America? Here in America Young black males have been killing each other for years. Why has it been happening for so long? I personally believe it is the lack of jobs, and drug dealing being in most cases the only source of income. I believe this because I was once a young black male living for the city, and senseless black on black killings were rare. Today, it’s insanely out of control here in New Orleans and other urban cities in America. When I was a young male, drug use was shameful and a sign of weakness, and drug dealing was not the only job for the young and restless. I call it The Black Death because even though many Americans of all ages and social classes deal in and with drugs, young black males die like no other Americans because of drugs. More black youths are incarcerated because of drugs than ever before. It’s a physical death for those that die and a spiritual death for those that live. Either way it kills like the Black Plague of Europe and we always look to see if anybody we know died last night or yesterday.

The Federal Government doesn’t have a war on the people’s right to bare arms as conservatives and the NRA always claim as a fact. The truth is states and local governments have the rights, backed by the constitution to make 50 different laws to control guns. They can allow or disallow open carry, conceal carry, or when or where you can carry. It seems like the Deep South and the Wild West is where most of the up and armed people fear Federal disarmament. I say fear not disarmament, but stop the killing of young black men. It seems to me that a liberal state like New York has controlled gun violence with gun control laws and jobs and the promotion of activities for the young and restless. On the other hand a conservative state like Louisiana has no gun control laws to combat gun violence and no monies to spend on New Orleans inner city violence. In fact the state is cutting back on government aid to all Louisiana citizens. In spite of the billions of dollars spent since Katrina, the New Orleans Recreational department wasn’t fully funded and was privatized alone with the public schools. The Underclass has suffered since Katrina and all the time the Black Death strikes day and night.

New York has gun control laws that protect all New Yorkers from out of control gun violence. These controls don’t infringe on their citizen’s right to own guns. Plaxico Buress a professional athlete spent two years in jail for shooting himself with an illegal firearm. New Orleans and cities like and similar need common sense laws that curb gun violence. Most Conservative states pass Alec type Stand your ground laws which can pile on the number of victims of the Black Death. If Republican wants blacks to vote Republican, they should use their State Rights laws to show a desire to save our children’s lives as well as their children’s lives.
