An Underclass View of the "Presidency of President Obama"

Political View from the Underclass

An Underclass view of the “Presidency of President Obama”

President Barack H. Obama became the 44th President of the United States of America about 7 ½ years ago. At that time America was entering the worst recession since the last Great Depression. I thought that it was not a good time for a first Black President. I thought about all the first Black Mayors of all those urban cities in the 60”s and 70”s after white flight and the lost of those cities’ tax base. Most of those first Black mayors failed to make something out of nothing. I was angry to see President Bush pile on the economic burden by bailing out Wall Street on his way out of office. I felt like Obama was set up to take a fall.

The real set up for failure was established in the 2010 mid- term elections. Prior to the insertion of pledged Tea Party Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010, the President was able to govern with slight majorities in the House and Senate. He was able to pass Health Care Reform and Financial Reform, both reforms were people oriented and opposed by Big Business and Wall Street. Once the Far Right took control the House, almost all Republicans in the House and Senate pledged to never, under any circumstance, vote to raise taxes. Just as it was not possible for the first Black mayors to maintain large urban cities without a tax base, it is very difficult to maintain a large Nation without a tax base for 7 1/2 years. The first Black President was and is up to the Job, like him or not. In spite of the Tea Party Republicans, the economy has recovered and the nation is slowly recovering. The president‘s credit card should be canceled, those on the right said, which was a precedent for a U.S. President. Many disrespectful precedents against the Presidency of the United States were establish in the first 3 ½ years. Through it all, the President has represented the Working and Underclass. The Republican Candidate for President has not shown me or the underclass whom I represent why we should not re-elect President Obama. We will also fire those sleeper cell pledged Tea Party agents in the U.S. Congress so the country can be governed in a democratic way. The complete tying of the President’s hands by both Houses and the Supreme Court is not good for the American people. These days in American politics, the President is the only spokesman for the American people, most other politicians fear and respect Corporations, not people.
